A test infrastructure with two test rigs for rotor blades of up to 90 meters in length is available for testing the latest generation of rotor blade designs and accelerating certification and market launch. The world´s largest rotor blade has also been tested here. Static testing as well as uniaxial and biaxial full-scale cyclic testing can be performed for the purpose of operational stability analyses within the space of just a few months. Thanks to natural frequency excitation for dynamic tests, cost-efficient long-term tests can be conducted given the reduced energy demands. Fraunhofer IWES uses hydraulic excitation to perform extremely precise tests. A tiltable mounting block facilitates not only assembly, but also enables bending of up to 30 meters at the blade tip. Dynamic blade testing under particularly realistic conditions as a result of biaxial rotor blade loading can save both time and costs.
